Mexican street food at its finest at L’Patron. The horchata is much too sweet for me but I dig the food. Look at the pineapple up in this al pastor burrito and check out the perfect burrito execution. Also got my taco game on. Happy to report that my tummy isn’t suffering, even an hour into digestion. All around, I approve!
Lunch at Cellar Door Provisions (3025 W Diversey Ave) started with a mug of coffee and a flaky cinnamon croissant. It ended with La Tourin, a stew of golden beets, purple carrots, chinese celery, bread, and a soft boiled egg. Deliciously simple and hearty, leaving me hankering for a return.
That little scoop of sorbetto is so chocolatey it could kill you. There is no cream, it is indeed a sorbetto, but it still maintains a creamy mouthfeel. The All Chocolate Kitchen in Geneva is a chocolate-lovers haven: life-size chocolate sculptures, exquisite gelato and chocolates for days. Yeah, that astronaut is pure chocolate… a little creepy, no?
I recently went out to Geneva to hang out with my friend Adrienne, who is in from LA for a couple weeks. I wasn’t expecting to do much other than smoke weed and eat cheese but I ended up discovering Moveable Feast, a little gem of a bakeshop, cafe, and catering company in the heart of the town with one of the best cookies I’ve ever had. They’re called fairy tale cookies, and they are essentially perfect: the cookie itself is crumbly and light, topped with a fluffy frosting with a hint of almond. They also had a maple flavor that day and mini pumpkin pies as delicious as they are precious. While their sweets are incredible, they also have healthy deli salads and sandwiches. In short, everything here is wonderful and I highly recommend a visit if you ever find yourself in these parts. I’ll make the trek out to Geneva just to get myself some Moveable Feast.
